Today we are wrapping up The Success Triangle with the final pillar: Consistency. If you are just joining us, make sure you read Part 1 on Focus here, and Part 2 on Tenacity, here. The reason we are saving consistency for last, is because without it, the other two pillars don’t really matter.
Consistency is what gets you across the finish line, plain and simple. It is the grind, that everyone likes to pretend they are willing to commit to, but only the truly success actually will commit. How many times do you see on social media someone talking about their ability to hustle? They talk about it as it is a badge of honor, and it actually is, to those that do the work instead of talk the talk. In today’s culture it has become trendy to talk about hustling and grinding, never quitting. But the reality is, most quit before they even start.
Do you know why?
Because consistency is boring.
The grind is boring.
However, you have to take small, consistent steps, day in and day out in order to be able to look back and see the 10,000 mile journey you are on. When you first start something, whether a new campaign for your business, or even a new business venture, there is that spark of something new that will give you momentum. At some point though, that moment can start to waiver. This is where consistency steps in. If you discipline yourself to always take consistent steps to move forward, no matter the obstacles or distractions in front of you, you can keep that momentum going. If you only rely on momentum, your doomed for failure.
Consistency also allow for measurement. When you take consistent steps, you allow your progress to be measured, which allows your results to be measured. When your results are measured, you can create a track record for yourself and your business. When you create a track record, your clients feel comfortable knowing they will get what you promise, because others have gotten those same results from you in the past.
Finally, as a leader, without consistency, you’re dead in the water. When you are the leader of a business, your employees look to you both for direction, as well as guidance. They also watch you, even if it’s subconsciously, to see if your actions align with your mission statement. If you are the type of leader that barks out orders to your crew, yet your actions aren’t consistent with your words, you won’t earn their loyalty. I know from a personal perspective when I have been involved in business ventures where I wasn’t being consistent in my message and actions, I had high employee turnover, and the ones that stayed had a hidden agenda typically. Yet, when I have aligned myself using The Success Triangle and have hit all three pillars, I have been able to build incredible teams around me, and the business has always been a success. So, focus on what your objective is, be tenacious about reaching your goal, and take consistent, daily steps to push your goals beyond what you believed you were capable of doing.
